Review of Chinese Traditional Patent Drug Prescriptions in Outpatient Department

OBJECTIVE:To improve the quality of Chinese traditional patent drug prescriptions,promote rational use of Chinese traditional patent drugs to ensure safety and effectiveness of drugs.METHODS:The outpatient Chinese traditional patent drug prescriptions in July,Sept.and Nov.in 2007 were subjected to a statistical analysis in accordance with Prescription Management Measures issued by Ministry of Health and State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2007.RESULTS:Of the total 8 986 prescriptions sampled,8 674(96.53%)were qualified(i.e.312 were unqualified),which was up to the requirements of three-A hospitals on the integrated management prescription statistical indicators(prescription qualification rate ≥95%)in hospital management activities.The unqualified prescriptions were characterized by non-standard writing of prescriptions and non-irrational use of drugs etc.CONCLUSION:The prescription writing is far from standard;the level of rational use of drugs remains to be improved,and it is necessary to conduct re-education among medical staff about the basic theory of traditional Chinese medicine and knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine.
