Abstract

Collecting water and soil samples from Tainan brine pan of Lianyungang, taking salt(NaCl) as the sole growth limiting factor, we have investigated the numerical distribution of halophilic bacteria with the media containing 4%, 12% and 25% mass-concentration of NaCl. The results show that the greatest amount of halophilic bacteria appears in Summer (1. 4×104 colonies per milliliter in water samples) , and at the same season the amount of them in per gram of soil samples is 10-102 times as large as in water samples.
