Abstract

Graft copolymerization of acrylic acid onto corn starch in inverse emulsion was studied in accordance with water absorption by orthogonal experiment. The results showed that the optimum condition was weight ratio of acrylic acid to starch 2.5∶ 1,concentration of cross-linking agent 1.75%,concentration of initiator agent 2%,ratio of oil to water 1.2∶ 1,and neutralization content of monomer 50%.The water-absorbency of polymer was up to the top of 62 g/g.with favourable water retention.
