On Yanjing Buddhism in the Liao Dynasty

Emperors of the Liao Dynasty were likely to worship and advocate Buddhism.They traveled to Yanjing,treated the monks,engraved sutra,did temple constructions,gave the honored names,made the protecting monuments,worshiped the famous monk and gave support to Yanjing Buddhism.During the period of the Liao Dynasty,famous monks from the Vinaya School,Hua-yen School,Esoteric Buddhism,Zen School,Pure-land School,and the Dharma character school advocated Buddhism in Yanjing.They built 46 temples,which formed the first prosperity of Beijing Buddhism.Buddhism in the Liao Dynasty was prosperous,but it still fell behind compared with the Central Plain Area.When observing Yanjing Buddhism in the Liao Dynasty,we not only appreciate its prosperity,but realize its shortage.Thus,we can have a more comprehensive and objective understanding of it.
