Abstract

Objective To observe the contraceptive efficacy, side effects, influences on menstruation and acceptability of mifepristone in small doses of 12.5 mg,comparing with 25.0 mg.Methods By using randomised controlled methods,1200 women with unprotected intercourse within 72 hours were enrolled into groups,GroupⅠand GroupⅡ.In GroupⅠ(n=600),patients were given mifepristone in a single dose of 12.5 mg.In Group Ⅱ (n=600),patients were given 25 mg mifepristion. Both two groups patients′were told to receive follow-up survey on time, including their contraceptive efficacy, side effects andchanges of menstruation. Results There were six megnacies occurred in each group.According the classic methods of Dixon, the effective rate of contraception was 88.59% in GroupⅠand 89.11% in Group Ⅱ.There were no significant differences between the two groups (P0.05).There were no adverse reaction occurred. Conclusion Mifepristone in a single.dose of 12.5 mg for emergency contraception has the same effect as 25 mg,with the advantages of effective contraception,no obvious adverse reaction, and slight effect on menstruation.
