Abstract
Wen Yiduo's view of the poeticized Tang should be interpreted by taking into account many factors, such as writing, spread and appreciation of poems and the poet's social status. It was absolutely out of self-consciousness that scholars in the Tang Dynasty wrote poems owing to their established maxim having no way of expression but writing poems. And the spread and appreciation of poems was totally socialized, and poets were widely respected by the society. The view of the poeticized Tang is of great theoretical implication, which facilitates us to reevaluate the poetry of the late Tang Dynasty. From this view, the poetry of the early Tang Dynasty marked the transition from the Qi and the Liang to the Tang the poetry of the prosperous Tang Dynasty indicated the pinnacle, the poetry of the mid-Tang Dynasty stood for a phase of revival, and the poetry of the late Tang Dynasty represented the very phase of the poeticized Tang Dynasty, that is, the period of time when the socialization of poetry was completed.
