Abstract

Objective To study the expression and its clinical significance of laminin(LN),CD44v6 and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) in human esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and its adjacent mucosa. Methods The expressions of LN,CD44v6 and VEGF were detected by immunohistochemical SP method in tissue samples from 60 cases of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and its adjacent mucosa. Results The positive expressions of LN and CD44v6 in its adjacent mucosa were 60.0%(36/60) and 50.0%(36/60),while those of the carcinoma tissues were 48.3%(29/60) and 60.0%(30/60).There was no statistical significance between the two tissues. The positive expressions of LN,CD44v6 were related to the serosal invasion and lymph node metastasis and TNM stage,respectively(P0.05 or 0.01).The positive expression of VEGF in carcinoma tissues was 70.0%(42/60),and that of the adjacent tissues 90.0%(54/60),there was statistical significance between the two tissues(P0.01).There was significant correlation between the expressions of VEGF and degree of differentiation, serosal invasion, lymph node metastasis and TNM stage,respectively(P0.05 or 0.01).There was positive correlation between the CD44v6 and VEGF(rs=0.329,P0.05). Conclusion LN,CD44v6 and VEGF might be related to the biological behavior of esophageal carcinoma.Examination of three proteins may be helpful to judge biological behavior and prognosis of esophageal carcinoma.
