Abstract

Objective To observe the expression of CD44 splice variant V6 (CD44V6),vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF),matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) in human esophageal carcinoma, and its relation with clinicopathological features of the tumor. Methods Paraffin embedded sections from 60 samples of esophageal carcinomas were examined with the method of immunohistochemistry for CD44V6,VEGF and MMP-2 expression. Results The Positive rate of CD44V6,VEGF and MMP-2 expression was 68.33% (41/60),56.67%(34/60) and 70.00%(42/60) respectively. The expression of CD44V6 was closely related to invasion depth and lymph node metastasis of tumor, but not related to pathological grades. The expression of VEGF and MMP-2 was significantly related to pathological grades, invasion depth and lymph node metastasis of tumor. The expression of three proteins was 33.33%,which was significantly related to pathological grades, invasion depth and lymph node metastasis. Conclusion The expression of CD44V6,VEGF and MMP-2 are correlated with the development, invasion and metastasis of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. Examination of expression of three proteins may be helpful to judge biological behavior and prognosis of esophageal carcinoma.
