Comparative analysis of different accesses for peripherally inserted central catheter under guidance of color Doppler ultrasonography

Abstract

Objective To compare the clinical application of peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) via basilic vein and internal jugular vein under guidance of color Doppler ultrasonography (CDU). Methods Patients with malignant tumors were randomly divided into basilic vein PICC group (30 cases) and internal jugular vein PICC group (30 cases). One-time success rate of puncture catheter, one-time success rate and life quality data were analyzed and compared between two groups. Results One-time success rate and one-time success rate of catheter in the basilic vein PICC group were 100%, while in the internal jugular vein PICC group one-time puncture success rate and one-time catheter success rate was 86.68% and 83.33%, respectively. There were statistically significant differences between the two groups (P 0. 001). The quality of life for patients in basilic vein PICC group was better than that in the internal jugular vein PICC (P 0. 001). Conclusion The basilic vein puncture PICC under the guidance of CDU has higher accuracy, security and puncture success rate, which worth for clinical application.
