Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship between the severity of obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS)and hypertension. Methods Blood pressure(BP) of 134 cases with OSAHS were monitored using the diagnostic polysomnography(PSG) before sleep, during the night and awake in the morning. Results BP was significantly higher in patients with OSAHS than that in the controls, which was higher in severe OSAHS patients than that in mild to moderate OSAHS patients. The morbidity of hypertension in 104 patients with OSAHS was 51.9%,which was 37.9% in mild-moderate OSAHS patients and 69.6% in severe OSAHS patients.BP in OSAHS patients was higher during awake in the moring than that before sleep.BP was significantly decreased after a month treatment with Auto-CPAP in 15 moderate to severe OSAHS patients. Conclusion OSAHS is one of the factors that induce or aggravate hypertension. The incidence and severity of hypertension in OSAHS patients are incresased as the severity of the disease increases.BP obviously decreases after a certain time of Auto-CPAP therapy.
