Abstract
Objective To explore the incidence and clinical characteristics of men over the age of 60 with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS) and hypertension. Methods 305 men over the age of 60 with OSAHS diagnosed by polysomnography(PSG),hospitalized from Jan 2011 to Jan 2013,were selected and divided into two groups according to their blood pressure :simple OSAHS patients and OSAHS complicated with hypertension patients. The clinical characteristics and PSG data of all patients were documented. Results The incidence of hypertension in men overthe age of 60 with OSAHS was 60.66%. The level of blood pressure both in systolic pressure and diastolic pressure(SBP and DBP) before sleeping in the night and just after waking in the morning were higher in patients with OSAHS complicated with hypertension than that those in OSAHS without hypertension( P 0.05). Apnea hypopnea index(AHI) was also higher in OSAHS complicated with hypertension group than that in OSAHS without hypertension group(P 0.05). The lowest oxygen saturation was lower in OSAHS complicated with hypertension group than that in OSAHS without hypertension group(P 0.05). Conclusion The incidence of hypertension in men overthe age of 60 with OSAHS is relatively high.It is indicated that blood pressure plays a considerable role in the progress of OSAHS and that the high level of blood pressure in OSAHS patients can be treated timely.
