Abstract

Objective:To compare the effectiveness and safety of spironolactone in treating chronic heart failure in addition to benazepril and betaloc therapy.Methods:84 patients with chronic heart failure were randomly divided into two groups, spironolactone group(42 cases) and control group(42 cases). After 6 months' therapy, blood pressure, blood biochem istry, left ventricular end-diastolic volume(LVEDV),left ventricular end-systolic volume(LVESV),left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF) and VE/VA were measued. The incidence of high kalium was recorded. Results:LVEDV,LVESV,LVEF and VE/VA of the patients in the spironolactone group were significantly improved(P0.05),which were significantly different from that of the control group(P0.05).The heart function of the patients was found much improved compared with controls. Conclusion:Adding spironolactone to benazepril and betaloc therapy is effective and safe in improving left ventricular function of patients with chronic heart failure.
