Abstract
Objective: To compare the efficacy and side effects of risperidone and olanzapine in the treatment of mental disorders due to use of alcohol. Methods: 70 mental disorders due to use of alcohol were randomly divided into risperidone group (n=37) and olanzapine group (n= 33). They were treated for 6 weeks. The clinical efficacy and side effects were evaluated with PANSS and TESS before treatment and 1,2,4,6 weeks after treatment. Re- sults: There were significant efficacy in risperidone gronp and olanzapine group, there were no significant differ- ence in statistics (P0.05). Incidence of extra-pyramidal symptoms in risperidone group were significantly higher than those in olanzapine group (P0.05). Conclusions: Risperidone and olanzapine showed efficacy and safety in the treatment of mental disorders due to use of alcohol.
