Abstract

Objective: To investigate the relationship of serum leptin level with insulin resistance in rats fed with high fructose diet. Methods: Male Spraque-Darley rats were fed with high fructose diet to establish insulin resistant hypertensive rat model. The concentration of serum glucose, insulin and leptin were determined. The HOMA model was used to evaluate insulin resistance (IR). Results: SBP , insulin level and HOMA-IR in rats of model group were significant higher than those in normal control group, following hyperleptinemia (P0. 05 or P0. 01). In rats of model group, leptin was positively related to SBP, insulin and HOMA-IR (P0. 05 all). Conclusion: High fructose diet can induce insulin resistance, hypertension and hyperleptinemia in SD rats. Leptin may be associated with the mechanism leading to insulin resistance.
