Abstract
Objective To study the relationship between the cerebral edema induced by glioma and the aquaporin-1, 4 (AQP-1,4). Methods The expressions of AQP-1, 4 in 30 cases of gliomas, of which, 25 were astrocytic glioma and 5 glioblastomas, were detected by immunohistochemiscal technique. The relationship between their expressions and the edema induced by the gliomas was analyzed. Results The expression of AQP-1 was significantly lower in the gliomas of grades Ⅰ-Ⅱ than that in the gliomas of grades Ⅲ-Ⅳ (P0.05) and the expression of AQP-4 was significantly higher in the gliomas of grades Ⅰ-Ⅱ than that in the gliomas of grades Ⅲ-Ⅳ (P0.05). Conclusions The AQP-1,4 may play an important role in the edema induced by the glioma.
