Abstract
Objective To investigate the expression and correlation of survivin and matrix metalloproteinase 9(MMP-9) in cholangiocarci-noma,and evaluate their correlation with invasion and metastasis in cholangiocarcinoma. Methods The expression of survivin and MMP-9 was detected by immunohistochemistry(PV-9000) in 34 cases of cholangiocarcinoma with invasion and metastasis and 11 cases without invasion and metastasis. Results In invasion and metastasis cases,the positive rates of survivin and MMP-9 were 61.8%(21/34)and 70.6%(24/34),respectively. In cases without invasion and metastasis,the positive rates were 27.3%(3/11)and 36.4%(4/11),respectively. The expression of both survivin and MMP-9 was positively related to invasion and metastasis in cholangiocarcinoma(P0.05),and the survivin expression was positively related to the MMP-9 expression(P0.01). Conclusion The survivin expression is positively related to the MMP-9 expression in cholangiocarcinoma tissue,and the expression of both is positively related to invasion and metastasis in cholangiocarcinoma. Therefore,the joint detection of survivin and MMP-9 expression may serve as an indicator for judging diagnosis,prognosis and metastatic potential of cholangiocarcinoma.
