Study on the Restoration of Post-core Crown for Injured Premaxillary Teeth Following Crown-root Fracture

Abstract

Objective To study the reservation and restoration of premaxillary teeth following crown-root fracture due to injuries. Methods 33 injured premaxillary teeth of 22 patients were treated. The palatal broken ends of all crown-root fracture locate more than 4 mm below gum margin. High frequency electricity knife was used to shape palatal gum and root canal therapy were accomplished before restoration. Then, post-core crown of titanium alloy or gold alloy was applied to repair these teeth. Results All treated teeth achieve perfect externality and function. In the pericd of 6 months to three years post-operation follow up, all patients had no symptoms of gingival swelling, atrophy and periodontal pocket. X-ray examination did not show any abnormality in the peridentium and alveolar ridge. Conclusion The restoration of post-core crown using titanium alloy or gold alloy after gingivoplasty can get satisfactory result in injured premaxillary teeth following crown-root fracture cases.
