Abstract
A Rose for Emily is one of Faulkner's well-known short stories.Its two most salient features:the disordered chronology and the shocking ending arouse many scholars' interest as well as most of their criticism towards the story.This thesis aims at Faulkner's narrative structure and techniques in the story,discusses their influences on readers,and thus explains the effects they produce on the characterization of the heroine and the theme development.
