Abstract

Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effect of non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) in treating acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) caused by various factors. Methods The total of 20 patients were divided in two groups: primonary lung injury group (9 cases) and secondary lung injury group (11 cases).The APACHEⅡscore between two groups, artery blood PH, oxygenation index (PaO_2/FiO_2), repiratory rate before and after NIPPV in the two groups were compared. Results There were significantly differences in PaO_2/FiO_2, repiratory rate before and after 2 h of NIPPV in the two groups, and no significantly difference in APACHEⅡscores was observed between two groups. Conclusion NIPPV is a safe and effective method in the treatment of ARDS, and it may be served as the first choice for clinicians.
