Using the principal component analysis of ploystatistics, the main obstacles to agricultural sustainable development in Gansu Province were quantitatively analized. The results indicated that there were seven factors hindering agricultural sustainable development of Gansu Province, including the proportion of governal financial for agricultural investment, agricultural technical personnel number per ten thousand people, proportion of employees in the primary industry, causing disaster rate of natural disasters, per capita grain yield, agricultural output/input ratio and investment in agricultural capital construction. In view of the above-mentioned conditions, the authors suggested that in order to promote and realize agricultural sustainable development of Gansu Province, the further investment in agriculture, especially in in the fields of science and technology, education, ecological environment construction as well as agricultural capital construction, should be increased, with the aims of enhancing the technology content in agricultural production and strengthening the resistance to natural disasters.Meanwhile, great efforts should be exerted to control the growth of rural population and create a favourable environment for agricultural sustainable development in policy and institution.
