Effects of Zhichen Tang on Gastric Emptying in Wistar Rats

Objective To observe the effect of the herbal medicine Zhichen Tang on the gastric emptying in wistar rats and to investigate its mechanism.Methods Wistar rats were randomly divided into two groups-group A(Zhichen Tang) group B(control).After treating with Zhichen Tang for 5 weeks,30-min gastric liquid empyting rate,erythrocyte acetylcholinesterase activity and plasma motilin content were measured by radioistopic techniology,microcolorimetric and radioim munoassay,respectively.Results The experiment indicated that 30 min gastric emptying rates of group A and B were(43.35±11.56)% and(31.66±6.81)%,respectively(P0.05).The erythrocyte acetylcholinesterase activity and the plasma motilin content of group A were also significantly higher than those of group B.Conclusion Zhichen Tang can promote liquid gastric emptying by improving the cholinergic nerve function as well as increasing the plasma motilin content.
