Abstract
The superstructure of the main bridge of Tantai Lake Bridge is a hybrid structure of steel tube arch and prestressed concrete continuous box girders with span arrangement (40 + 96 + 40) m, and that of the approach spans on either south or north side of the Bridge are also prestressed concrete continuous box girders, with foundations of the overall bridge designed as bored piles. In this paper, the comparison and selection of artificial island schemes for construction of the bored pile foundations of the in-water piers are presented, and the technical problems encountered in the construction of the bored piles, pile caps, and solutions to the problems are described as well. The experiences from the construction of the pile foundations herewith may be of certain reference to the construction of the type of foundations of in-water piers elsewhere.
