Clinical study of granisetron in the prevention of nausea and vomiting caused by postoperative epidural analgesia

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the effect of Granisetron to prevent the nausea and vomiting caused by postoperative epidural analgesia. Methods: 80 patients undergoing elective gynecologic surgery were allocated randomly into two groups(n=40). A standard epidural analgesia was used postoperative. Granisetron 3mg was inijected in group Ⅰand 0.9% NaCl 3ml was injected in group Ⅱ after the peritoneum suture. The following data were recorded in postoperative 24 hours: HR,BP,SpO 2,ECG and the postoperative nausea and vomiting(PONV). Results: There were no significant statistic difference in hemodynamics between two groups. In group Ⅰ,the incidence of nausea and vomiting is lower than that in group Ⅱ. Conclusion: Granisetron can reduce the nausea and vomiting caused by postoperative epidural analgesia.
