Preventive effects of granisetron on abdomenal postoperative nausea and vomiting

Abstract
Objective:To observe the preventive effects of granisetron on abdomenal postoperative nausea and vomiting(PONV).Methods:Sixty patients undergoing abdomenal surgery were randomly divided into two groups:granisetron group(G, n =30) and control group(C, n =30).The patients in group G were intravescularly administered 3 mg granisetron hydrochloride injection 10 minutes,before the operation was finished while the patients in group C were not.Nausea and vomiting of the patients were observed in the following 24 hours.Results:Only 2 patients in group G had nausea and vomiting and the symptoms were milder,while 12 patients in group C developed nausea and vomiting.The difference was significant between the two groups( P 0.01).Conclusions:Preventive administration of granisetron can effectively prevent PONV. [
