Abstract
Objective To investigate the therapeutic effect of giant cell tumor of bone treated with allogeneic bone graft or autogeneic bone graft. Methods Reviewed 30 cases of giant cell tumor of bone treated by thorough curettage,alcohol deactivation of tumor and packing the defect with allogeneic or autogeneic bone transplantation from January 1997 to December 2002. Results All the patients achieved bone union and normal function except 3 cases of tumor recurrences. The time of follow-up was from 2.5 to 9 years. Conclusions Accurate evaluation of tumor's extent plays an important role in decreasing tumor recurrence. There are good tissue compatibility and bone information in the allograft for the treatment of giant cell tumor of bone and bone defect filling with allogeneic bone is reliable.
