Abstract
Objective: To explore the effects of shenmai injection(SM) on lung lipid peroxidation in rat model of intestinal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R). Methods: Twenty-four SD rats were randomly divided into three groups,sham group, I/R group and treatment group. The superior mesenteric artery was separated only in rats of sham group. Models of intestinal I/R injury were established in I/R group and treatment group. In treatment group, rats was injected SM (0.9 mL/100 g) through tail vein before ischemia, before reperfusion and 30 min after reperfusion, respectively. The values of leukocyte adhesiveness/aggregation (LAA) were detected in the peripheral blood, lung wet/dry weight ratio, lung coefficient, superoxide dismutase(SOD), malondialdehyde (MDA) and myeloperoxidase (MPO) in serum and lung tissue, and the effects of SM were observed as well. The changes of lung histopathology were examined by light microscope. Results:(1) The values of LAA in peripheral blood, lung wet/dry weight ratio and lung coefficient were significantly increased in I/R group than those in sham group (P 0.01). The results of light microscope examination showed that more serious damage of lung tissue in I/R group compared with those of sham group. The above-mentioned indexes were obviously lower in treatment group compared with those of I/R group (P 0.01). (2) The activity of SOD in serum and lung tissue was significantly lower in I/R group than that in sham group (P 0.01). The content of MDA and the activity of MPO in serum and lung tissue were significantly increased in I/R group than those in sham group (P 0.01). The above-mentioned indexes were obviously ameliorated in treatment group in comparison with I/R group (P 0.01). Conclusion: Shenmai injection can protect the lung injury induced by intestinal ischemia/reperfusion, which may be mediated by inhibiting lipid peroxidation and aggregation of neutrophils.
