Effect of ropivacaine with neostigmine on postoperative analgesia for knee arthroscopy

Objective To evaluate the analgesic effect of intra-articular ropivacaine with neostigmine.Methods Forty patients receiving selective knee arthroscopy were randomized into two groups of 20 patients respectively.At the end of the operation,an intra-articular injection was administered to each patient through arthroscope.In accordance with their random allocation:100 mg ropivacaine and 0.5mg neostigimie(Ⅰgroup),and 100 mg ropivacaine along(Ⅱ group).Pain intensity was assessed after operation using the 100-mm visual-analog scale(VAS).Results The VAS scores of ropivacaine with neostigmine(Ⅰgroup)were significantly lower than ropivacaine alone(Ⅱ group)(P 0.05) after postoperation time of 4 hours and 8 hours.Conclusions The combination of intra-articular neostigmine with ropivacaine can reduce the patients' pain severity in 8 hours after surgery and have rare adverse reactions.
