Abstract

Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effects of excimer laser assisted in situ keratomileusis for the correction of high degree myopia. Methods To study retrospectively 41 eyes of 23 patients, who received excimer laser in situ keratomileusis, followed up for at least 3 months. The mean preoperative refraction was -14.74± 3.72D. Results At first day, the uncorrected visual acuity was markedly improved, 39.2% achieved their preoperative best corrected visual acuity. At 1 and 3 months, 58.54% and 53.66% achieved their preoperative best corrected visual acuity respectively. Meanwhile, no refractive error being 41.46%. ≤土1.0D being 65.85%, ≤土2.0D being 77.27%. Conclusion Excimer laser assisted in situ keratomileusis is an effective and safe method for correction of high degree myopia. However, the long term therapeutic effects await further observation.
