Abstract

Shanghai Changjiang River Bridge is located at the estuary of the Changjiang River and spans the north channel of the river. The total length of the Bridge is 16.55 km,of which the part of the Bridge crossing the river is a huge composite girder bridge that accounts for a length of approximately 9.97 km and is composed of the main shipping channel bridge, auxiliary shipping channel bridges and non-navigable span bridges. For the main shipping channel bridge,it is required that a navigational clearance for 50 000 DWT ships should be provided underneath the bridge and the structural type selected for the bridge is hence a separated steel box girder cable-stayed bridge having a main span of 730 m,double pylons in inverted Y-shape and double cable planes, and the space for arrangement of the light rail transit lines is preserved on the bridge in design. In this paper, the design of the main shipping channel bridge is highlighted.
