Study on Acceptability of Female Condom by Female Commercial Sex Workers in Binchuan County

Objective To study the acceptability of female condom (FC) by female sex workers and promote the use of female condom in high risk people and prevent HIV infection. Methods A total of 119 female sex workers in Binchuan were recruited in a 24 weeks'acceptability study of female condom which included baseline questionnaire survey,filling condom use card daily and follow up. Results The usage of female condom increased by week from less than 1 to more than 5 during the study. Meanwhile,the usage of male condom was stable and the usage ratio of male condom to female condom decreased from 5∶1 to 2∶1.Many factors influenced the usage of female condom,including female sex workers' attitude to female condom and the property of female condom.Conclusion Female condom is accepted by most female sex workers,which could improve the usage of condom in female sex workers. It is suggested that the health education on HIV/AIDS and STDs prevention should be strengthened and the usage of female condom should be promoted to block HIV infection and STI.
