Survey of status of male condom use in sexual behaviors and acceptability of female condom among female sex workers (FSW) in entertainment places in Hainan.

Aim To survey the status of male condom use in sexual behaviors and acceptability of female condom among female sex workers(FSW)in enertainment places in Hainan. Methods Cross-sectional survey was used to collect the information from female service sex workers in entertainment places icluding face-to-face interviewing. Result A total of 178 subjects were interviewed ,and 158 were valid questionnaires ,the rate of correct answers to the questions whether HIV can be transmitted through blood,or sexual contacts,or mother-to-child were 91.72%,86.21% and 84.83%,,respectively. In the past month,there 42.41% FSWs used condom every time,,and 22.15% never use condom at all. The rates of thinking female condom can prevent STDS and AIDS among the 29 people who have heard female condom were 75.86% and 72.41%. And 6.90%(2/29)of them once used female condoms. 80.4% of 158 FSWs considered female condom better than male condom,93.0% and 90.0% of them were fond of female condom because it can prevent STDS and pregnancy. Conclusion The rate of male condom using is still low in sexual behaviors among the FSWs of the town in Hainan suggesting the use of female condom be promoted among this group in the future.
