Abstract
AIM:To investigate the effects of lipopolysaccharides (LPS) on proliferation and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity of periodontal ligament cells (PDL cells).METHODS:MTT method and enzyme dynamics method were used to observe the ability of proliferation and ALP expression of PDL cells.RESULTS:The growth inhibitory effects of LPS were found only when considerable higher concentrations were given. In contrast, treatment with low concentration of LPS exhibited the enchancement of proliferation.LPS diminished the ALP activity of PDLC at all concentrations and suppressed the ALP activity of PDL cells, significantly in contrast to the control.CONCLUSION:The growth inhibitory effects of LPS are mainly relevent to the concentrations.LPS might induce the subtype change and inhibit the PDL cells differentiation.
