Effect of Sanqing Jiangtang decoction on blood glucose and kidney function in diabetic rats

OBJECTIVE To observe the effect of Sanqing Jiangtang decoction on blood glucose and kidney function in alloxan induced diabetic rats.METHODS Alloxan induced diabetes model rats were set up by intra-peritoneal injection.Seventy healthy male Wister rats were divided into 6 groups randomly: control group,model group,rosiglitazone group(0.29 g·kg-1),Sanqing Jiangtang decoction low,middle and high dose group(1.61,4.03,8.05 g·kg-1);intragastric administration of the corresponding drugs respectively for 4 weeks.Fasting plasma glucose level and two hours after meal were measured on the day before the drug administration,the second weekend and the fourth weekend.4 weeks later,body weight and renal index were measured;total urinary protein in 24 h,blood urea nitrogen(BUN),serum creatinine(SCr) were detected with correlative methods.RESULTS Blood glucose,kidney coefficient,total urinary protein in 24 h and blood urea nitrogen levels were decreased in each group treated by Sanqing Jiangtang decoction(P0.05).Each group had little effect on serum creatinine level.CONCLUSION Sanqing Jiangtang decoction had hypoglycemic activity and some positive effect on diabetic rat's kidney function.
