Abstract
Objective To investigate the treatment of non-invasive mechanical ventilation in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) combined with respiratory failure. Methods 72 over the age of 60 COPD patients with respiratory failure were randomly divided into treatment group and control group, with 36 patients in each group. On the basis of conventional treatment, non-invasive mechanical ventilation was managed in the treatment group, while conventional therapy was employed in control group. Respiration, heart rate, arterial blood gas and clinical efficacy were observed and compared between two groups before and after treatment. Results After treatment, the efficiency of the treatment group and control group was 80.6% and 44.4% respectively, with statistically significant difference (P0.05). PH, arterial oxygen pressure (PaO2), arterial carbon dioxide tension (PaCO2), breathing and heart rate were significantly improved in treatment group after ventilation (P0.05); treatment for 48 h waiting ventilation, PaO2 and PaCO2 in treatment group was better than that in the control group (P0.05). Conclusion The nose and mouth mask ventilation is effective, simple and practical in the treatment of noninvasive chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and respiratory failure, with the increase of PaO2, SaO2, PaCO2, correction of lower pH, promoting disease of early rehabilitation
