Abstract

Objective To discuss the correlation of the expression of nuclear factor-κB and granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor with the risk of bone metastasis in breast cancer. Methods 52 breast cancer patients with bone metastases(MBC-B group) and 72 breast cancer patients without metastases(PBC group) were included in the study. The expression of NF-κB and GM-CSF were detected in the tissues from the breast cancer by immunohistochemical procedures. Results The expression of NF-κB in MBC-B group(69.2%) was significantly higher than that in the PBC group(41.7%,P=0.002),and the expression of GM-CSF in MBC-B group(34.6%) was lower than that in the PBC group(63.9%,P=0.001).There was no significant correlation between the expression of NF-κB and GM-CSF(P=0.490).NF-κB was correlated with molecular pathological types of breast cancer(P=0.000);whereas no significant correlation was observed between the expression of GM-CSF and molecular pathological types of breast cancer(P=0.991);The expression of NF-κB was correlated to the tumor size, clinical stage, the number of lymph node metastasis, receptor status,HER-2 and P53 expression; There was no correlation between the expression of GM-CSF and clinico-pathological characteristics. Conclusion NF-κB expression is correlated to the clinico-pathological features, and may involved in the bone metastases in breast cancer.
