Abstract

American Sinology derived its development from works by American protestant missionaries and diplomats in the 19th century, which were under support from European sinologists at the beginning of the 20th century and now becomes a branch of Chinese studies of vital importance. After World War Two,because the USA government realized the strategic value of China and John King Fairbanks advocated a multiple disciplinary study of China,a brand new Chinese Studies came into being, which is in a parallel development with sinology.Sorting out such scholastic development from a historical perspective is of great reference value.
