Chinese Scholars Migrating to the United States during the 1940s and Their Impact on the American Sinology

The present academic studies on the history of American Sinology mainly focus on the general situation of American Sinology,the changes of its research paradigms,prestigious Sinologists and their works,and rarely could have someone to observe this topic from the perspective of ethnic Chinese scholars in the United States and their impact on the American Sinology. This article thus provides an overall discussion on the topic. It shows that a group of Chinese scholars majoring in the literary and historical studies migrated to the United States in the 1940s,and their academic studies formed an important part of the American Sinology, which in turn had a significant impact on the development of American Sinology. The author contends that the Chinese scholars made fundamental contributions towards American Sinology and greatly promoted its development,such as jointly laid down a solid foundation for the growth of American Sinology while correcting different flaws,and in such a way they opened up a new research area in the field of American Sinological studies.
