Abstract
[Objective]To know the status of knowledge,attitude of AIDS and the needs of the knowledge about AIDS among rural residents in Chongqing and provide scientific evidence for implementing intervention measures targeting rural popu-lation.[Methods]A total of 400 rural residents at the age between 15 and 59 were sampled by random-cluster sumpling in Kaixian county.All data were entered with Epidata 3.02 and analyzed by SPSS12.0.[Results]A total of 400 rural residents were investigated.The ratio of male and female was 1.12.The average age was(39.8±11.8)years old.They were less educat-ed,for 42.5%of them just received primary school education or even no education.They had poor recognition about AIDS.About 60%of them knew the three transmission routes of AIDS.The rate of the awareness of no transmission route was about 50%.Only 61.8%of them knew condom could prevent AIDS transmission through sex.They had positive attitude towards people living with HIV/AIDS.61.5%of them would like to care and help people living with HIV/AIDS.The major route to acquire in-formation about AIDS was TV,and the followings were IEC material,newspaper magazine,and doctor counseling.[Conclu-sion]Rural resdents'knowledge and awareness about AIDS is poor.It is urgent to conduct various popularized activities,strengthen mass media propaganda and face to face education to prevent AIDS epidemic among rural residents.
