Abstract

[Objective] To evaluate the knowledge of acquired immunity deficiency syndrome(AIDS) among community residents in Lanzhou and its risk factors to explore measures for prevention of AIDS in community.[Methods] A cross-sectional study of 2 466 respondents from the districts managed by 33 urban community health service centers and two township hospitals was conducted using a face-to-face questionnaire.A multistage sample design was selected to collect data.[Results] Negative findings were that from 60% to 80% of urban residents knew the correct routes of transmission and prevention, less than half of rural residents knew them.29.12% and 35.77% of all respondents were unaware of the routes of transmission and prevention.About 19.67% of residents weren't willing to know the knowledge regarding AIDS.In multivariate analyses the age, higher educational level and the attitude of AIDS knowledge were associated knowledge of AIDS status.[Conclusion] The community residents have poor knowledge about AIDS.So education about the accurate knowledge of AIDS needs to be improved while changing the attitude of AIDS knowledge gradually.Meanwhile,it is necessary to take the different educational measures for urban and rural area respectively.
