Investigation on the HIV/AIDS-related knowledge among rural residents in Anhui province

Abstract

Objective The primary purposes of this article were to investigate the current situation of AIDS knowledge and evaluate the effects of AIDS intervention project among rural residents in Anhui Province,so as provide the basis for laying down the following plan.Methods Stratified cluster sampling method was conducted to carry out a face-to-face questionnaire survey among rural residents aged 15-49 years in 34 China CARES/Global Fund AIDS Project counties of Anhui province.Results Among 9 665 rural residents,the awareness rate of HIV/AIDS-related knowledge was 75.40%,and the average score was 6.46±1.87.The awareness rate of knowing voluntary blood donation was 59.4%,and the difference had a statistical significance compared with the awareness rate of HIV/AIDS-related knowledge(χ2=1177.719,P﹤0.001).Conclusion The awareness rate of HIV/AIDS-related knowledge was high,which reached goal(75%)set by theAIDS five-yea poject.However,the awareness rates of blood donation without compensation and AIDS non-transmission routes were low.It is suggested that we should strengthen the propaganda on the knowledge of blood donation without compensation and AIDS non-transmission routes,so as to improve awareness rate of AIDS and blood donation knowledge.
