Abstract

Objective To evaluate electron beam CT (EBCT) in the study of renal blood perfusion.Materials and Methods Flow study with EBCT was performed in 40 healthy subjects and 20 patients with decreased renal blood flow. Peak time (PT), rise time (RT), peak value (PV), rise value (RV) and perfusion flow were measured. Results In patients with decreased renal flow, PT was delayed and RT was prolonged, while PV and RV were lower than that of normal subjects. Significant difference in the perfusion flow of renal cortex existed between normal and abnormal individuals. Conclusion EBCT is very useful in dynamically observing the fluctuation of the renal CT values, judging the severity of the renal ischemia and measuring the renal blood perfusion.
