On Violations of Cooperative Principle in Diplomatic Discourse

Cooperative principle proposed by Grice,has been applied in linguistic analysis for more than forty years.As an important theory in discourse analysis,it plays an important role in free communication.However,the violation of the cooperative principle will lead to the occurrence of conversational implicature,which expresses the hidden meaning.In the long-term diplomatic activities,a series of brilliant and thoughtful discourses formed by diplomats appear.The diplomats will not always adhere to the cooperative principle because of the characteristic of the work.Thus the violation of cooperative principle becomes indispensable.Many researchers have done a lot of work on cooperative principle in humor discourse,but rarely has they applied it into diplomatic discourse.Therefore,the present study will combine the cooperative principles with diplomatic discourse in order to get better understanding of the witness of diplomatic language.
