Abstract

Objective:To study the changes in plasma endothelin and nitric oxide levels in patients with hyperthyroidism. Methods:The plasma endothelin and nitric oxide concentrations were measured in 50 patients with hyperthyroidism and 30 healthy subjects as the control group by RIA and spectrophotometry. Results:The plasma levels of endothelin in patients with hyperthyroidism(158.47±41.43ng/L)were signifcantly higher compared with the control (49.36±9.68 ng/L,P0.01).The plasma levels of nitric oxide in patients with hyperthyroidism(1.96±0.57 μmol/L)were significantly higher than those of the control(0.87±0.38μmol/L,P0.01).Conclusion:The changes in plasma concentrations of endothelin and nitric oxide in patients with hyperthyroidism might play a role in the pathophysiology in hyperthyroidism.
