Abstract

[Objective] To study the relationship between urotensinⅡ, endothelin, adrenomedullin, nitric oxide and hypertention in diabetic patients. [Methods] The concentrations of plasma urotensinⅡ, endothelin, adrenomedullin, nitric oxide were measured in 20 type 2 diabetic patients with normal blood pressure、 40 type 2 diabetic patients with hypertension and 20 normal individuals. To analyse the relationship between plasma levels of urotensinⅡ、 endothelin,adrenomedullin、 nitric oxide and hypertension in diabetic patients. [Results] The results showed that the plasma levels of urotensinⅡ、endothelin and adrenomedullin were significantly higher in the diabetic patients with hypertension than in those with normal blood pressure, while the plasma nitric oxide level was significantly lower (all P 0.01). A positive correlation was found between urotensinⅡ、 endothelin、 adrenomedullin and MAP in diabetic patients with hypertension (r =0.509, r =0.434, r =0.67, all P 0.01), a negtive correlation was found between nitric oxide and MAP also (r =-0.577, P 0.01). [Conclusions] The high plasma concentrations of urotensinⅡ、 endothelin、 adrenomedullin and low plasma concentration of nitric oxide might play an important role in the develpment of hypertension in the diabetic patients.
