Abstract
The face rockfill dam of Hongjiadu Hydropower Station with a height of 1795 m and ratio of width to height 238 located at karst area where are high mountains and gorges. When dam foundation excavation was designed, conscientiously researching topographic and geological conditions, the designer selected the design that high side above plinth, plinth foundation and the side of rockfill body at downstream of plinth would be excavated at same time. When dam foundation was treated the designers adopted relevant measures to meet the requirements of engineering according to many unfavorable topographic and geological conditions discovered in excavation. The design method and treatment measures have accumulated helpful experience for constructing face rockfill dam in karst gorge areas.
