Spiritual Freedom and Soul Freedom——the Comparison between Freedom Spirits of Zhuang zi and Sartre

Abstract

Though both Zhuang zi and Sartre call for freedom together,their respective idea of freedom is greatly different from each other. The spiritual freedom of Zhuang zi is inactive,while the soul freedom of Sartre is active.Zhuang zi holds that the way to realize freedom is to let nature take its course and to get rid of your desire through heart-washing,while Sartre holds that the man is destined for freedom,the way to realize freedom is to let the man realize he is free by encouraging him to do self-choice,to achieve self –making and self-realization.
