A Search for Morality and Kindness

From the new angle of construction of harmonious human heart, harmonious life and harmonious society, the paper reinterprets Wu Xing in banboo slips found in Guodian. The theme of Wu Xing is to construct a mode of moral experience which can transform the five kinds of social moral principles into people's moral character and belief, and therefore into the specific moral behavior through the search for morality and kindness. Saint can not only listen to and understand the doctrine of a man of noble character, but also transform it into his moral character and belief, and therefore into his moral behavior. Saint can combine Nature's Law, humanity with the law of a man of noble character to explore and search for moral excellence. A man of noble character is a pursuer of kindness and a wise man to seek for realm of kindness. The idea of harmony in Wu Xing is different from that of Confucius and that of Mencius.
