Abstract
Objective: To investigate the variation and clinical value of brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) in the patients with heart failure. Methods: The levels of BNP and left ventricular end-diastolic diameter (LVEDD) and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) were tested on the 80 cases of patients with heart failure and 23 cases of control group. Results: The levels of BNP were significantly higher in the patients with heart failure than in control group (P0.01). The levels of BNP in the patients with heart failure were increases with the severity of functional classification(according to New York Heart Association). The levels of BNP in the patients with heart failure were negatively correlated with LVEF(r=-0.87,P0.01) and positively correlated with LVEDD(r=0.79,P0.01). Conclusion: The level of BNP can provide useful information in heart function and have important clinical significance in diagnosing and judging severity and prognosis of heart failure.
