Abstract
Objective:To compare the levels of serum C-reactive protein(CRP)and soluble intercellular adhesion molecule -1(sICAM -1)in patients with chronic periodontitis and coronary atherosclerotic heart disease, probe into the relation of periodontal disease and coronary atherosclerotic heart disease(CHD)and the effect of CRP and sICAM -1.Method:Twenty-seven CHD patients referred for diagnostic coronary angiography were assessed for no periodontitis by no periodontal attachment loss.Twenty-nine chronic periodontitis patients were assessed for no system diseases.Thirty healthy cases passed the periodontal examination by the same dentist were taken as control group. All the cases were tested on the serum concentration of CRP、sICAM -1 by immune turbidimetry and sensitive enzyme -linked immunosorbent assay respectively.Result:The level of serum CRP and sICAM-1 in experiments group(CPand CHD)were significantly higher than control group(P 0.01).The levels of serum CRP and sICAM-1 in CP patients were higher than CHD patients(Pdy0.05).Conclusion:CRP and sICAM-1 were significantly associated with the pathological mechanism of periodontitis and CHD,but the relationship of both diseases still need to be further confirmed.
