A Randomized Comparative Clinical Study of Levofloxacin iv. vs Ciprofloxacin iv. in the Treatment of Bacterial Infections

Abstract

To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of levofloxacin. A prospectiverandomized-controlled clinical trial was carried out. Levofloxacin as a trial drug wasadministered in 200~300 mg doses, twice a day by iv. infusion. Ciprofloxacin as a controldrug was 200~400mg, twice a day by iv infusion. The treatment lasted for 7~14 days.Resultst 38 patients were treated with levofloxacin and 35 patients were treated withciprofloxacin. The clinical cure rates of the two groups were 76.3% and 68.6% respectively.The clinical effcacy rates were 97.4% and 97. 1 % respectively. The bacterial clearancerates were 88.6% and 89.7% respectiveIy. The adverse drug reaction rates were 7.9%(3/38)and 5.6%(2/36) respectively. There were no statistical differences. Levofloxalin is a safeand effective drug in the treatment of infections of the respiratory, urinary and alimentarytracts.
